John Mayer sustained an injury, but the show must go on!
The 46-year-old took to social media on Thursday (August 1) to reveal that a very important finger was out of commission after an encounter with a truck door.
This is affecting the way that he plays guitar, which he’s doing Thursday evening onstage with Dead & Company. While he is down a finger, the hitmaker assured his fans that he would take the stage and revealed how he pulled it off.

On Instagram, John shared a photo of his finger with a bandage on it.
“Last Thursday I injured my left index finger (truck door), and the first thing that went through my mind was ‘I really need that finger in a week.’ I need all my fingers, but the left index is the team captain of my fretting hand,” he explained to his followers.
He continued, saying, “It will heal just fine, but will be out of commission for a while.”
“In the meantime, I have spent every day practicing guitar using the other three fingers and I think I have it sounding pretty good,” he said, making it clear that he found a way to continue performing.
John said, “I’ve always felt like every part of me belongs to these shows, and it’s my responsibility to return to the stage each night without screwing up the equipment, and I’m sorry for the misadventure here. The power of the music and the love for these shows will prevail! See ya tonight ♥️.”
We hope that he feels better soon and has a good show!
