The 24-year-old Olympian won the gold with his floor routine on Saturday (August 3), becoming the first male Olympic gold medalist in the history of the Philippines, and the country’s second Olympic champion ever.
Then, a day later on Sunday (August 4), he set another record, winning another gold in the individual vault final.

His victory earned the Philippines’ first medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and he also became the first Filipino gymnast to achieve an Olympic podium finish, followed three years after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz made Philippine sports history with the country’s first Olympic gold medal.
“I’m so overwhelmed. I’m feeling grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always,” he said. “He gave me the strength to get through this kind of performance and perform this well.”
